Questions about chinese character ocr

You need to download chinese trained data (it will be a file like chi_sim.traineddata) and add it to your tessdata folder. To download the file https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tessdata/raw/master/chi_sim.traineddata and use like this

Tesseract* tesseract= [[Tesseract alloc] initWithDataPath:@"tessdata" language:@"chi_sim"];

Making a complete list (or more like finding one) of kanji that are in use and checking each character if it's on the hashset. Don't use a list, it shouldn't be too slow then. You need to simply enumerate all Japanese characters, for example find all characters your font supports: Finding out what characters a font supports.

http://www.Abbyy.com is going to be the best place to look. Their mobile OCR overview can be found here - http://www.abbyy.com/mobileocr/features#Section_5. It supports Chinese.
There are some web base services based on the Abbyy engine - http://www.wisetrend.com - They will charge based on volume but may be a good way to start out.

Please try this site free online cor tool http://www.online-code.net/ocr.html, it supports Chinese charactor recognition.

If the Chinese writing is really neat, or computer you can search for Chinese OCR software (Optical Character Recognition). This can read the characters from an image to text, then you place this text into Chinese > English translation software.
